Choosing A Good Pot For Bonsai

Selecting a good pot will also enhance the beauty of the bonsai. In selecting a pot, its size should be the first thing to be considered.

An ideal pot for a Japanese maple bonsai should be extremely shallow due to its root’s shallow construction too. A pot that will provide enough room for the roots’ growth should be selected. There are different colors and shapes of pots like rectangular, oval, square, and lotus or as according to water and land presentation. These pots will avoid or minimize replanting.

There are many kinds of pots for Japanese maple bonsai and these include the following:

  • Ceramic bonsai pots. This is the ideal choice for maple bonsai. This uses such material that allows your plant to absorb and eliminate water. Ceramic is porous in nature an ideal choice as it helps eliminate the growth of fungi. It keeps the soil good and dry. Ceramic pots are recyclable thus environmental friendly.
  • Mica bonsai pot is good for outdoor bonsai. This pot can withstand all elements like freezing. It is also unbreakably hard. The only disadvantage is that, there are only very few in colors.
  • Plastic bonsai pots are also known as humidity trays. It holds the water for longer time thus creating humidity around the plant. These can be found anywhere at low prices. These are also known as training pots.
